English Grammar Schools

grammar school hallScholarships are a fantastic gift if your child is fortunate to be offered one, but they are also incredibly competitive.  If gaining a position at the school of your choice was difficult enough, expect the scholarship application process to be even trickier.  Generally, grammar schools will offer scholarships for students who prove that they are gifted academically, artistically, or in a sport or physical subject.  Although not always a factor, the school may consider the financial background of the parents and may only offer the scholarships to students who can prove that they need the extra financial support.  Whilst full scholarships are of course preferable, it may be possible to negotiate a partial scholarship in place of no financial assistance at all.

The scholarship application process is not an easy one, and includes interviews, examinations, and a continued commitment from the child and the parents.  The child will have to prove their merit academically, or will be asked to demonstrate their skills in the specialization they excel at.  If a sporting scholarship is offered, the child will be expected to represent the school throughout the time the child is enrolled.  If the scholarship is for academics or the arts, the child will be monitored closely throughout their time at the school, and will be expected to maintain a high grade point average or productivity rate.  Scholarships are taken very seriously by grammar schools and it has been known to happen that the offer of financial support  be withdrawn if the student's level of achievement drops unnecessarily.
